When we think of water treatment, we most likely think of drinking water, and while potable water facilities and plants are very important, it is only one part of the steps needed to produce acceptable levels of drinking water.

The first step is to acquire the raw water which comes from rivers, lakes, underground water wells, and in some cases from reconditioned wastewater. Wherever the water source comes from, disinfection is a critical component to treating the water.

Raw water contains large amounts of biological life that adversely affects water treatment - algae, biofilm, slime, zebra and quagga mussels, protozoa, harmful pathogens, bacteria, viruses i.e. E.coli, salmonella, listeria, coliform, etc.

The traditional method in managing these biological issues is the use of chlorine (CL2), Peroxide and Ozone although these products pose a host of detrimental problems for treatment facilitates, operators, and especially the environment.

For example, CL2 is highly corrosive, meaning that treatment equipment constantly requires maintenance. CL2 is also highly toxic and requires special storage and handling as well as special training for the operators and handlers. The process of dissolving CL2 gas into a liquid results in a high percentage of off gas CL2 loss, limited oxygen radical production, and relies on the satisfaction of chlorine demand. The use of CL2 also demands control of the water pH, and the chlorine is never 100% utilized.

ALT-019 was developed to replace the old chlorine treatment process with a modern approach that takes advantage of oxygen energy, oxygen toxicity to eliminate the above biological and process issues.

ALT-019 new oxidation energy technology eliminates harmful pathogens, bacteria, viruses, algae, biofilms, slime, cyst, fungus and molds, yeast, taste, foul odor, invasive species, mussels (zebra and quagga), and HPC (CFU/100 ml), etc.

Alt-019 reduces bromates, total triholomethanes (TTHM), ozone demand (30-60%), and improves zeta potential for increased removal of total suspended solids (TSS).

ALT-019 usage also has a favorable effect that is the partial precipitation of magnesium, sulfur, and iron.

ALT-019 is very cost effective replacing 12-14 gallons of chlorine with a single gallon of ALT-019 while at the same time reducing equipment, operation, maintenance, and environmental costs.
